Westwell, an AI-driven intelligent logistics solutions provider, has delivered 60 self-developed intelligent new energy terminal tractors equipped with a Swappable Battery System (SBS), together with a Battery Swapping Station (BSS), to Westports Malaysia, where the vehicles have entered commissioning and operational integration. The deployment elevates Westports to become Malaysia’s container terminal with the largest fleet of electric terminal tractors, showcasing and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and intelligent port operations while enhancing its financial performance.
Located along the Strait of Malacca, one of the world's busiest maritime corridors, Westports serves as Malaysia's largest gateway container terminal and a key hub connecting East Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Driven by strong transshipment volumes, extensive global port connectivity and shipping networks and continued improvements in terminal automation and yard optimization, Westports handled 11.3 million TEUs in 2025, up 3.2% year-on-year, according to Malaysia's Ministry of Transport. Meanwhile, the port is advancing a MYR39.6 billion expansion project that will add 4.8 kilometers of new quay, increasing its annual handling capacity from 14 million TEUs to 27 million TEUs. As a multiple ESG award-winning port operator, Westports is accelerating its investment in solar energy and fleet electrification. The deployment of 60 Westwell E-TTs marks another key step in the terminal's intelligent and green transformation.
The successful arrival of the fleet, followed by the immediate start of charging and on-site commissioning, marks an important milestone for the project and lays a solid foundation for rapid delivery, with commercial operations expected to begin by the end of August. Once deployed, the E-Truck fleet is expected to significantly improve terminal operating efficiency, reduce operating costs associated with high fuel prices, and enhance driver comfort and occupational well-being.
To support continuous terminal operations, the fleet will be paired with Westwell's PowerOnair intelligent battery swapping system, enabling fully automated battery replacement in approximately five minutes. The vehicles have also undergone enhanced anti-corrosion and salt-spray protection, allowing reliable operation in Malaysia's tropical climate, characterized by high temperatures, heavy rainfall and coastal humidity.
Looking ahead, as Malaysia's 13th Malaysia Plan (2026-2030) continues to invest in modern, efficient and sustainable port infrastructure and ASEAN trade continues to grow, Westwell will continue to support Westports project through vehicle deployment, system implementation, and localized engineering and maintenance services. Through its global deployment and localized operations model, the company will provide comprehensive operational support for the project while helping the terminal advance toward greener, safer, more efficient and intelligent operations.
